Prof. Dr. Stefan Ingerfurth, previously Vice-Rector for Research and University Development, takes over the responsible office after unanimous election by the University Council and equally unanimous confirmation by the Senate of SRH Fernhochschule.
Born in Heidelberg with family connections to Ulm, he holds a doctorate in non-profit management, is a former professional basketball player and describes himself as “half Swabian and Palatine”. After completing his degree in business administration, his professional journey took him from a management consultancy in Freiburg to a doctorate in Mannheim and on to university in Hamburg, before he joined SRH Fernhochschule as a professor of business administration in 2015.
A decade at the SRH Fernhochschule
He has now been a permanent fixture there for a decade. First as Professor of General Business Administration with a focus on sports management and health care management, later as Vice-Rector and member of the university management. Now, as Rector, he is ready to help shape and drive forward the development of the university even more intensively.
Marcus Schafft, member of the University Council and Mayor of Riedlingen, is also delighted: “In Stefan Ingerfurth, SRH Fernhochschule has found a new Rector who has strong ties to the region and the location. I have come to know him as a real team player and look forward to the next few years of fruitful collaboration at the university location in Riedlingen and beyond national borders.”
From mountains of paper to digital transformation
Ingerfurth is particularly keen to continue and intensify the university's digital transformation. “When I started working here, study letters were mainly printed and communication was largely analog. Today, SRH Fernhochschule has mastered the leap into the digital world - and the fact that we can always react with agility and find digital answers to challenges is one of our great strengths,” he says with conviction.
Team player with a spirit of innovation
The human aspect is just as important to him as his enthusiasm for innovation. Ingerfurth emphasizes that it is the people at SRH who make the difference. He is looking forward to working with a strong team to exploit the university's potential and actively shape the future of distance learning. After all, success is only possible as a team - he knows this from his time as a basketball player and brings this conviction to bear today as Rector.
