Erasmus+ in Spain: Work with a sea view

After work, dive straight into the waves or stroll through the awakening nightlife of a fascinating city with a bag of churros. It's a dream many people share. Robin Schorb is living this dream thanks to the Erasmus+ programme at SRH Fernhochschule.

Talking to Robin Schorb, it quickly becomes clear that his journey has been marked by curiosity, a sense of adventure and a constant desire to improve. The young man from Karlsruhe decided early on to study by distance learning in order to combine theory and practice in the best possible way while continuing to travel the world.

He also describes himself as someone who is always looking for new challenges. He chose the Master's in Sales Management & Strategy at SRH Fernhochschule as a distance learning programme for several reasons. Firstly, it allows him to remain flexible in his planning. It also opens up a wide range of possibilities, especially in terms of where he wants to live.

Gain practical experience in a holiday environment

Robin's desire to gain international experience eventually led him to Barcelona. Thanks to the Erasmus+ programme, he was able to complete an internship in the city by the sea. At the Spanish branch of a large German software company, he gained further practical experience in after-sales." I worked in a dynamic team that was very international. This diversity of cultures and working methods was really enriching for me," he says. And the best part? Robin had an unobstructed view of the sea from the office building. "It was really special to come to work with a view of the sea. The setting was inspiring and made working here even more enjoyable," says Robin enthusiastically.

Erasmus+ as a key financial factor

"Without the Erasmus+ grant, it would have been almost impossible," he admits, reflecting on the cost of living. Barcelona made a big impression on him. "It's like a rollercoaster - there's always something going on and there's so much to discover in the city," he says enthusiastically. Robin moved into a shared flat with other international residents. "Finding a place was a challenge because the demand for housing in Barcelona is huge. But in the end, I found a great shared flat that has enriched my stay," says Robin. In particular, the open and friendly flatmates helped him settle in quickly.

The experience not only helped Robin cope with everyday life in a foreign city, but also strengthened his intercultural skills. "You really learn to be flexible and adapt to new situations here. It has also made me grow personally," he reflects on his first months in Barcelona.

Immersed in Spanish life

In addition to his professional experience, Robin also wanted to immerse himself in Spanish culture. "The Spanish are such welcoming people and I've met so many cool people. The range of opportunities here is fascinating," he continues. Weekend trips to the Costa Brava and the mountains around Andorra particularly captivated him. These outdoor experiences, combined with the vibrant city life, made his time in Spain unforgettable.

Despite the challenges, Robin's conclusion is positive: "I am very grateful for this experience and would do such a programme again any time. It has broadened my horizons and shown me the importance of international networking. He now plans to continue his Master's degree with the same flexibility as before, initially from Spain, and feels well prepared for the challenges ahead.

"The distance learning programme gives you the freedom to have such experiences and I can only recommend it to everyone," Robin encourages his fellow students.
